Homework The purpose of homework in second grade is to establish good study habits and routines. Set a homework routine for your child at the start of the school year. Homework should not take more than 20 minutes each night. Like anything in life, we don’t get better without practice. Your child should be practicing nightly reading (20 minutes) and practicing their math facts (+ and - to 20). You should expect that your child will have some type of light homework assignment everyday, with the exception of no homework on weekends or over long breaks. You will always find the homework assignments written in your child’s homework log. If you notice that your child is not able to complete an assignment on his or her own, please send a note or jot a note to me on the assignment.
Why read nightly?
Strong reading skills form the basis for learning in all subjects. Please make sure your child reads a minimum of 20 minutes each night. Find out more about nightly reading here.
